Finals Survival Guide!

It has come to the time college students dread the most: finals week. As if a semester full of quizzes and papers and exams wasn't enough, we have a whole week dedicated to putting us through the (multiple) tests of our studies.  I hate this week.  I loathe its existence.  The only thing that gets me through it is knowing that the holidays are a few short days away.  To help you survive this week, I'll be giving out a few tips on what I do in order to not jump out a library window.

On a scale you 1 to stab yourself in the thigh how stressed are you about finals? I know everyone has probably told you this, but you can get through it! All the studying will pay off in the end, and then you can relax until next semester.  I'm going to give you a few tips on how you can survive finals week. Shout out to my bff Joanna (follow her on Instagram) for giving me these tips!

Finals Survival Guide

Drink Lots of Water

There is nothing worse than being dehydrated while you study your butt off!  Drinking lots of liquids will not only keep your mind focused, but it will help you from developing a nasty cold in the midst of everything.  Even better? Add fruit to your water! My favorite water combo is lemons, strawberries, and a few mint leaves.  When your water tastes good of course you want to keep drinking it!

Get Some Sleep

I know it may seem like a better decision to skip on sleep and study more, but please don't.  Your body needs sleep in order to recuperate and your mind needs the rest!  Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night and I promise you that you'll see a huge difference in your productivity. Now put down those Sugar-Free Redbulls and get to bed!

Know When to Turn Off Your Phone

They're tempting, I know, but social media apps can wait while you study!  While you may think tweeting about how awful your final is will help you, it really won't.  More than likely you'll stay on your phone for too long and distract yourself, which won't help on that Calc final.  Everyone needs a break, but make sure that while you are hitting the books that your phone is shoved somewhere in a deep crevice of your backpack out of side and out of mind.

Study With Reliable People

One thing that really helps me when studying is studying with other people.  Quizzing others and asking questions really gets my brain going and I start to learn more!  That being said, only study with people who will help you.  If your friend's idea of "studying" is watching Netflix in the library while you do all the work, then maybe you should find someone else to work with. Only work with students who encourage you!

Don't Kill Yourself

As I said in my last post, Finals Study Tips, take breaks while you're studying. If you are running yourself down to the wire it's only going to hurt you in the end. Read 4 chapters of your Chem book? Good for you! Now take a 20 minute break and go for a nice walk outside.  Finals may be important, but so is your health, and you shouldn't spread yourself too thin.

Celebrate With the Girls!

This is the most important thing in order to survive finals! You did all that hard work and studied your butt off, so now it's time to let loose and dance it off! My best friends and I are going to Ladies Night to celebrate the end of the semester because you know why? We deserve it! Even if your idea of celebrating is chilling on the couch with your cat drinking wine, do it! This is your time to relax and enjoy what is now your month of vacation.

What are your steps to surviving finals? Got any fun plans for when you're done? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time my loves x.

Final Exam Study Tips!

Being a business major, there's never a time where I don't have to take an exam.  I envy my friends who have the luxury (in a sense) of writing papers instead of staring at 75 multiple choice questions while the kid next to me stuffs his face with pretzels. That being said, I have become very comfortable in my study habits and (for the most part) think they're beneficial.  I'm going to show you some of my top study tips so you can whiz through your finals like the super genius you are!

Finals Study Tips:

1. Make Flash Cards

I cannot stress this enough.  There is nothing easier than buying a dollar pack of 100 note cards from the store and cranking out a bunch with all the information you need to know for your exam. Studies have shown (I'd cite them if I cared enough) that the more you look at something the easier it is for you to remember it in the future. I use flash cards for definitions, equations, and pretty much everything.  I recently took the final for my wine course (yes, I took a class about drinking wine) and used my flash cards to memorize all the grape varietals for wine growing regions in Europe (still hate my professor for making us memorize GRAPE VARIETALS FOR EACH WINE GROWING REGION IN EUROPE). But you know what those flash cards got me? One of the highest grades on the exam and an A in the class. Worth it!

2. Create Acronyms

Coinciding with flash cards, create acronyms to help memorize lists of things.  For example, do you remember PEMDAS from middle school? It's the order in which you solve a math equation: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. I use acronyms for EVERYTHING from the presidents (What A Joke Mamma Mia)* to the sub-regions of the Loire Valley in France (Not All Virgins)*. That way once I get my exam I write down all my acronyms in the blank spaces to the side so I can use them while I take the test! Sometimes those acronyms work miracles, let me tell ya!

3. Take Breaks and Study in Intervals

Your brain cannot handle you staring at your notes for 3 hours without a break.  I recommend reading your study guides, flash cards, textbook, or even your computer for 30-60 minutes and then taking a 15 minute break to do something else.  Now, you probably shouldn't stay on your computer and play Neopets (omg add me as a Neofriend it's phillyphritz), but taking that 15 minutes to walk around and stretch or even grab a cup of coffee can do wonders.  Hell, you can even take a power nap! One time during my sophomore year my friend Nicole and I took a 30 minute power nap and then finished all our homework in the span of 2 hours. It gave us the perfect amount of energy to stay focused! Your eyes need a break sometimes, so let them have it!

4. Read Your Textbook

I know this is a shocker (who actually READS their textbooks anymore), but this can actually really help you during finals.  There's a reason why your professor assigns a textbook...so why not take advantage it? Plus, I know some of my professors use the text bank questions from the book when they have their exams.  What better way to study for a test then to get the answers straight from the source?  You'll never know what sentences will stick with you, so reading that chapter about the difference between business and corporate strategies, no matter how bad you want to stab your eyes out, could be a real game changer!

5. Review Old Tests/Quizzes

This is my go-to when it comes to finals.  In almost every single one of my classes the professors give us weekly online quizzes to make sure we are staying on track.  Then later on we can go back and review those questions to see what we answered wrong and practice again.  Looking over how your professors write questions can really help when it comes to studying because you start to get a feel for what the exam will be like.  Before each exam, I print out all my quizzes from the chapters I know will be on the test and review them.  This especially helps because I begin to recognize questions I answered wrong prior, and start to remember what the correct answer actually is so that if I see the question on the test, I automatically rule out my wrong answer from before.  Does that make sense?

I hope you will use this tips and do amazing on your final exams!  Just remember, you are already made it this far, you can do it!

*If you were wondering what my acronyms stood for, the first was Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe and the next was Nantes, Anjou, and Vouvray. Go learn those presidents and Loire valley sub-regions, girl!

Do you have any great study tips for finals? Are you already brain dead from all the studying you've done? Leave a comment below and let me know!

Holiday Gift Guide: Men

It's that time of year again! Snow, hot chocolate, and who can forget the stress of buying everyone the perfect gift? Well don't you worry because I have you covered! With my Holiday Gift Guides you will breeze through this holiday season without a scratch (well, there may be a dent in your wallet). So just sit back, relax, and let online retail therapy do the talking.

Men are literally the toughest people to shop for. Dads are easy because they just want books on WWII or a pair of underwear (just mine?), but boyfriends have an infinite possibility of wants! A watch? A video game? A new girlfriend (hah kidding...unless you're dating Harry Styles because he's meant to be with me)? I'm here to make the stress of buying your man a gift a little less painful with my Holiday Gift Guide. But worst comes to worse, just buy yourself some lingerie with the money you're supposed to spend on him. I'm sure he won't mind... ;)

Boyfriend Holiday Gift Guide

1. Grand Theft Auto V ($60) - Your boyfriend may already own this (I know guys who were counting down the minutes til its release) but if he doesn't you need to get it for him! There is nothing guys love more than cars, guns, and slutty girls.  This way, if he's playing a video game that involves all of those things, he'll be less likely to do it in real life (we hope)! No matter if he's team PS4 or Xbox One, you can get your man this for Christmas!

2. Topman Rudolph Pattern Socks ($16) - I LOVE REINDEERS! How freakin' cute are these socks?! Not only that, but they are a cute gift to give on Christmas Eve so he can wear them in the morning. Just imagine: these socks, cozy pajamas, and spiked hot cocoa by the fire. Trés romantique!

3. Versace Pour Homme Gift Set ($84) - Okay I know this is expensive, but trust me, it's worth it. Have you ever smelled this cologne? It's heavenly. I imagine this is what Ben Affleck smells like. I want to bathe in it. If your boyfriend should smell like anything this holiday, it should be this. You'll thank me later.

4. Kiehl's 'Refueling' Gift Set ($46) - No Shave November is coming to a close, and what better gift for your man and his beard than a luxurious shaving kit? This stuff is nice, not some trash Barbel you find at Target (no disrespect). It's like a sort of cologne all in itself, and his face will feel so smooth you'll just want to kiss it forever. And by all means, kiss away.

5. The Rail Cashmere Knit Cap ($35) - God Bless Beanies. I love them. I love men in them. As soon as your man puts this on his head you will die because his sexiness will increase 4000%. Best part? You can steal it and wear it, too. Perfect.

6. RayBan Aviator Sunglasses ($200) - Every time I see aviators I think of Tom Cruise via Top Gun. Now I'm not saying you need to drop $200 on a pair of sunglasses, you could find a nice pair from a generic brand, but these are so classy and will last him a long time so they're worth it. Love a man in uniform.

7. Topman Christmas Crewneck Sweater ($55) - Nothing says Christmas like ugly sweaters. It doesn't matter how cheesy it is, your guy will look good in it. And if he gets you an ugly sweater then you can take photos together and be so cute! I am just chock full of ideas what can I say?

I hope this gift guide gives you some idea of what to get your boyfriend this holiday. Have you already bought your guy a gift? Any must-haves? Let me know in the comments below!

Holiday Gift Guide: Best Friends

It's that time of year again! Snow, hot chocolate, and who can forget the stress of buying everyone the perfect gift? Well don't you worry because I have you covered! With my Holiday Gift Guides you will breeze through this holiday season without a scratch (well, there may be a dent in your wallet). So just sit back, relax, and let online retail therapy do the talking.

My favorite people to buy gifts for are my best friends. When you spend majority of your time with your gal pals, you start to get a sense of what gifts they like/need. Not to brag, but I'm really great at this. When I go shopping with my friends I make mental notes when they pick up an item they like but then put it back. But even if you have no idea what your BFF wants for Christmas, the 7 items I have below will make anyone happy!

Best Friend Gift Guide:

1. Charming Charlie Rudy Reindeer Glass Candle ($18): If you're looking for a gift with a holiday theme, than Charming Charlie is the place you need to be shopping at. From watches in the shape of elves, snowman necklaces, and even gingerbread man socks (SERIOUSLY), this place does Christmas with style. I like this candle because it's cute as a button and can still be used as a decoration once all the wax is gone. And it smells like vanilla. Yas.

2. Kate Spade Place Your Bets Wristlet ($98): How precious. This wristlet is the perfect gift for your BFF who loves to travel and has the Vegas bug in her (it's not contagious). It literally looks just like a playing card, even the back has that pattern that you all know but I can't remember the name of right now. This cute bag will fit your friend's phone, credit card, keys, cash, and even lipstick! What more could she need?

3. Juicy Couture Couture Overdose Set ($40): If you know me, you know I love everything Juicy Couture. And what's in more of the holiday spirit than to share that love? In this gift set, your BFF will get two spray bottle of Juicy's amazing scents (literally I don't know how they smell so good), a nail polish duo (with GLITTER), a nail file, and nail decals. And it all comes in the chicest dang clutch I have ever seen for a gift set. I want one. Your BFF will, too.

4. Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham ($17): What's more fun than book club? Grab you and your BFF this hilarious novel so you can bond over the GIRLS star's embarrassing tales that every girl has been through. It's the gift that will bring you closer together while also thanking yourselves your childhood was not as awkward (phew).

5. Why the Hell am I not a Mermaid Flask ($16): But honestly, why the Hell am I not a mermaid?! Your best friend is probably wondering the exact same thing which is why this flask is the perfect gift for her and her drunken questions. I believe every classy woman has a flask for those moments when you just need a quick shot. Do her a favor and buy her this. She may not think she needs it, but she does. Trust me. I need 3.

6. Ciaté Candycane House Set ($25): I actually am getting this for Christmas so la la la. Not only does it have the ever so fabulous nail polish by Ciaté, but it is scented. SCENTED! Gingerbread, snowflake, Christmas trees...this is like the perfect holiday nail set EVER! Plus each polish is super glittery and fun and I mean come on what else does your best friend need?!

7. Philosophy Making Spirits Bright Duo ($23): I feel like the holidays is the perfect time for bubble baths and hot cocoa, and your BFF will have a sparkling time with these two shower gels. The smells of the holiday will lift her spirits and she will love you for it! Plus, these only come out this season so now is as good a time as any to grab one for her (and yourself)!

I hope this gift guide was helpful on your hunt for Christmas shopping. And you know, in case you were wondering, I like presents too...

What are you getting your BFF for Christmas? Any suggestions? Want more Holiday Gift Guides? Leave a comment below!

Cocktail of the Week!

I'm posting this on Thursday for a sort of "Throwback Thursday" Cocktail of the Week. This September, I traveled 10 hours with my mom to El Paso, Texas to see One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer in concert.  Yes, 21 year old me drove cross country to see a boyband with my mother.  Are you jealous? You should be...my mom is just that cool. Anyway, we stayed the weekend and had a wonderful time not only singing along to "Best Song Ever," but also trying a bunch of local restaurants.  The first place we tried was just minutes form our hotel which was perfect because we were STARVING after driving all day. And I have to say...Geo Geske is now my favorite restaurant and I wish they had one where I live. Not only was the food out of this world (Seafood Enchiladas...need I say more?!) but the drinks were AMAZING! My mom and I each ordered one of their signature martinis and fell in love.  Ah, the memories of flavors are just rushing back to me now! I am very happy to announce that my cocktail of the week is...

A Blue Lemon Drop Martini!

Doesn't it look scrumptious?! To make this cocktail at home, you will need blueberry vodka, lemon vodka (they used Absolut Citron), blue curacao, and sweet & sour, then fill with frozen blueberries in a sugar-rimmed glass! It's more sweet than tart and tastes exactly like a blueberry lemonade. I wanted to drink 5 but I felt like that might be slightly too many. Seriously though, check out Geo Geske and if you are ever in the area try it out. You will not be disappointed, I promise you!

I am honestly considering driving 10 hours just to get another one of these martinis. So worth it! What's your cocktail of the week? Any new favorite restaurants? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time my loves x.

DIY: Queen of Hearts Halloween Costume

Who doesn't love to get a little crafty? I've been dabbling in the crafted arts since I was a young Duchess and have been having fun ever since! I find that working with my hands not only keeps me busy, but helps clear my mind! This post is meant to show you some crafts I have tried and loved, and I hope you love them, too!

ARE YOU AS EXCITED FOR HALLOWEEN AS I AM?! I can't believe it's a few days away! I have been planning my costume since September so trust me, it couldn't have come faster.  Since I am now of legal age, I am able to not only dress up, but go to the bars and party it up! This is a huge step up from last year, when all my best friend and I did was eat at a Greek restaurant and see Insidious: Chapter 2. That being said. since we can all go out my friends and I decided that we would dress up in the same theme: Alice in Wonderland.  Because I consider myself royalty, of course I am the Queen of Hearts!

My favorite part of Halloween is not just buying a generic costume, but finding different pieces and making my own costume up! I knew right away how I wanted to put my Queen of Hearts costume together, with inspiration from this Pinterest post. First thing I bought for myself was a black and red corset.  Next on the list was black thigh-high stockings, black shorts, red shoes, a black tutu, and, of course, a crown (I got an amazing one from Spirit Halloween that matched my color scheme).  But, when I put my costume together, I thought it felt a little plain.  That's when I decided to get creative and make my costume even better!  I'll show you step-by-step what I did to make my Queen of Hearts costume something I could be proud of!

DIY Part I: Socks

What You'll Need:

  • A pair of black thigh-high socks
  • Red heart charms
  • Needle
  • Thread
These socks are just perfect aren't they? The black bow is the perfect spot to add the charms for a nice little pop of color. And those charms...how perfect are they? There is even a little crown on them so it's literally perfect for the Queen of Hearts! I found them at the craft store (on sale!) and was ecstatic because oddly enough, large red hearts are hard to find!

Step 1:

Obviously you are going to be sewing these charms on the socks, so first things first is to thread your needle with your string.  Since I'm at school, I don't have access to my actual sewing kit so gray thread had to do (but you can't even tell so it's okay).

Step 2:

You guessed it, start sewing on the charms! This was very easy to do because these charms had a half-circle back that I could use as a way to really get the charm to stay on the bow but also dangle.  I went over and over it about 7 times to make sure it was tight.

Step 3:

Voila! You're done! Wasn't that so simple and easy? Unless you can't sew to save your life, this is a quick DIY that can make any costume quirkier! All you need is a pair of socks and a charm that matches your costume theme...that's it. WHY AREN'T YOU DOING IT?!

DIY Part II: Tutu

What You'll Need:
  • A black tutu
  • Red glitter hearts (I found these in the crafts section)
  • Fabric glue (clear)

Step 1:

First things first, start by taking one heart at a time and laying it on the FIRST layer of the tutu. This is important because you do not want the glue to seep through the layers, cause it to bundle. Do this before gluing each heart so you know where you want to place it before applying the glue.

Step 2:

Now that you know where you want your heart to go, apply the glue to the back of it and carefully place on the tutu (remember, FIRST layer). Hold your hand under the layer so that the glue does not stick to anything else. Press down for 5 seconds, and then move on to the next heart.

Step 3:

Apply Step 2 all around the tutu until all hearts are used.  When placing them, I tried to alternate putting it high or low on the fabric so that it looked even and more natural.  Also, try not to push the glue so that it flattens around the heart, because it will show (I made this mistake a few times oops). But once you have hearts all around your tutu, you're done!  Like I said with the socks, you can use any color scheme and theme to make this match your own costume. And it just looks so good!

All done!

And there you have it! Your DIY Queen of Hearts costume is all done! And how stinking cute does it look?! Just a few little extras can really pull a look together, and if anyone tells you different then OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! ;)

What are you being for Halloween this year? Any tips on a DIY costume?  Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time my loves x.

Fall 2014 Essentials

Fall is my favorite season by far.  The leaves change colors, Starbucks brings out their best lattes, there is pumpkin everything everywhere you go, and it's the season of new TV shows (have you seen How to Get Away with Murder OH MY GOD)! I'm also a huge sucker for Fall holidays (Halloween this year is gonna be craaaaaazayyyy) and the perks of decorating that come with them! In order to get through these chilly months, I have a few wardrobe/accessory essentials to keep me in the Fall spirit!

1. Markus Lupfer Smacker Sweater: If there is one thing I love, it's items of clothing with kisses on them! I have been seeing this trend everywhere, and trust me, I've been buying more than I should be. I love this sweater because it's cute yet comfy and will keep you stylish as you keep warm!

2. Kettlewell Infinity Scarf: The color of this scarf is "deep claret" and honestly that just makes me love it even more. The deep, purpley reds that come out in Fall are absolutely gorgeous, and I think this scarf as a pop of color with a gray sweater would like ravishing! Scarves a staple to every Fall wardrobe, and this scarf would be the perfect addition to any closet.

3. YSL Rouge Pur Shine Lipstick: Dark lips are a MUST for Fall! I literally count down the days to when it is acceptable to wear dark lipstick again.  This color is a gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon red (I'm a wine lush I know) and would complete any look with pizzazz.

4. Chloé  'The Marcie' Tote: I have been lusting over this bag for months. Gray is a top trend this season, and this bag makes such a bland color look good. It is just so chic and classic that I feel like it can never go out of style! So if you're looking for a bag that will last you for seasons to come, I recommend this one.

5. Frame Denim Skinny Jeans: The only jeans I wear are skinny jeans and these look like a great addition to my wardrobe. I love destroyed denim, but these have just enough distress to make them look effortlessly cool and not at all trashy. Black goes with everything, so of course black skinny jeans are a Fall staple! Plus I feel like half of One Direction may own a pair just like this...hmm...

6. Kate Spade Trench Coat: I LOVE COATS! I feel like that is why the colder months are the best -- you get to wear adorable outerwear! This Kate Spade coat would go with any look, day or night, because it has amazing details.  Look at that black lining... it gives such structure to an otherwise normal coat, and the pattern inside is so fun!

7. H&M Tights: What is a cold weather wardrobe without tights? Wearing them underneath a dress, a skirt, or Hell even leather shorts, can put any look together. Black is a must, but this time of year it is also acceptable to wear colorful tights, too (channeling Blair Waldorf anyone?).

8. Boohoo Penelope Floral Swing Dress: Dark florals are all the rage and I'm obsessed with them (groundbreaking). I do like this pattern more in dresses than anything else, because with tights and boots you have the perfect Fall look. But, I do think that a dark floral scarf or something would be cute, too, so just mix it up!

9. Alexander Wang Chelsea Boots: CHELSEA BOOTS! Need I say more?? These boots are the hottest thing in footwear since middle schoolers discovered Uggs. I love them. I want 400 pairs in every color. Being 5'9", I usually don't wear much of a heel because I'm already tall enough. But I rock these boots like an Amazonian woman because they are too good to pass up! Plus the heel isn't that high, it's the right size to make that perfect *clack* when you walk on hardwood. If you don't already own a pair of these buy some. RIGHT NOW OKAY?!

10. Kate Spade iPhone 6 Case: I had to put at least one item pertaining to the latest phone craze in here! I'm still in the past with my iPhone 5, but as soon as I fork over the money on the new iPhone I am also going to splurge on this case for it! I have a problem buying phone cases, but I know that this one will keep me happy throughout the season.

What are your Fall 2014 essentials? Does it involve pumpkin? Let me know in the comments below!

September Favorites

I cannot believe September is already over! My final Fall semester of college is flying by and it's thrilling yet terrifying. Next thing you know I'll be graduating! But with the end of the month comes my monthly favorites! I love September because Fall is in the air and everything I love starts coming back to the stores (pumpkin, and I mean pumpkin). I'm sad this month has ended, but I am so excited because October is my favorite month of the year!

Beauty Favorites

Palladio Brow Pencil ($6) -- This is my new favorite brow pencil. Like I am literally in love. I was using Revlon for a while, and discovered this one helping my best friend find a new brow pencil. It reminds me a lot of the Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil ($21) but at a third of the price. It goes on so smooth and lasts me all day! This just makes me so happy because I feel like bold, beautiful brows put every look together, and this pencil makes my brows fabulous! You can find it at your nearest Ulta or online here.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette ($38) -- To say I'm obsessed with this palette is an understatement.  Not only does it have Tarte's amazing clay eye shadows, but it also includes a blush, bronzer, and highlight! The colors are perfect for a natural look, but also allow you to play with them to get the ideal "Girl's Night Out" smokey eye. And the packaging is just gorgeous. I mean a gold snake? LOVE it! I consistently use this and my Too Faced The Chocolate Bar Eye Palette ($49) on my eyes because why should I use anything else? You can find it at your nearest Sephora or online here.

Fashion Favorites

Charming Charlie Shapely Cluster Earrings ($10) -- These earrings are gorgeous.  I'm such a fan of huge statement earrings, and the purple, blue, and white in these earrings scream Fall to me.  They go with pretty much anything, especially a LBD for a night out.  I love Charming Charlie because their jewelry is so cute but not expensive! Buy your own pair here.

Pink & Pepper Rapper Riding Boot ($70) -- Does anything scream Fall is coming more than riding boots?! I love wearing boots because they look fabulous with leggings and a sweater, skinny jeans and a sweater, or tights and a dress! I found these beauties at DSW and was so excited because I have been wanting a pair of riding boots for so long.  I got the Brown/Chocolate color and they are so comfy and cute that I can wear them all day in class or walking through vineyards (did that this past weekend in Palisade...amazing)! Find your own pair at your local DSW or online here.

Music Favorites

Steal My Girl by One Direction -- Yes, I am that girl. 21 years old and I am still obsessed with a boyband. But you know what? I don't care. Those boys are damn sexy and they're harmonies make my heart melt.  I actually just got back from seeing their Where We Are Tour in El Paso, Texas (9 hour drive from Colorado...why) and I don't regret it one bit. Harry Styles even pointed at me in the crowd so...haters gonna hate. Now this single was just released on Monday, and it's off their upcoming album Four. Their first single off the album, Fireproof, I actually don't care for and was weary as to what to expect next. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. Now, this song does start off very different from their past hits, but the chorus is so catchy I dare you not to sing along! Listen now here.

Ugly Heart by G.R.L. -- Another obsession of mine is girlbands (hello, the Spice Girls were LIFE!).  My friend Nicole showed me this song and we probably played it on repeat 20 times.  There is a sick ukulele in the background and it's so upbeat and happy! This is the perfect song for girls like me who have fallen for the hot guys who turn out to be real assholes in the end. There are some amazing high notes and even though I'm not the best singer, I still try to match all of them! Take a listen and watch the fun video here.

18 by 5 Seconds of Summer -- Again, I'm that girl.  But to be fair, they aren't just the opening act for One Direction ( and their replacement). These four Australian cuties write all of their own songs and even play the instruments to back it up! This song, 18, is my jam even though I'm no longer 18. It's funny and super catchy and the perfect song to dance around in your underwear to (not that I've done that what)! If you don't think the line "she's got a naughty tattoo in a place that I want to get to // but my mom still drives me to school" is the funniest and cutest thing ever you can leave. Listen now and fall in love here.

TV Favorites

How to Get Away with Murder -- OKAY BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SHOW?! I know only the pilot has aired so far, but I am freaking hooked on this show. There is nothing I love more than shows that make you think (LOST fanatic over here) and I love how much drama was thrown into just one show! It has some of my favorite people including Viola Davis (you know her as Aibileen Clark in The Help), Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas in Harry Potter), and Matt McGorry (hot guard Jon Bennett in Orange is the New Black). I don't want to spoil anything for those of you who haven't seen it, but so much crap went down that I was on the edge of my seat by minute two! I can already tell this will be my new Fall drama, but I am looking forward to seeing what Gotham has to offer.

Selfie-- I was able to see the first episode of this on Hulu and I fell in love.  The main character reminded me of myself, sans the selfishness and lack of empathy. I was laughing out loud from the very beginning, and I already want the two main characters (Karen Gillan and John Cho) to hookup because they are precious.

Food/Drink Favorites

Starbucks Salted Caramel Mocha -- It's back. And I'm in love. While I do enjoy a nice Pumpkin Spice latte every Fall, the Salted Caramel Mocha has been gaining my interest lately.  I think it's the combo of salty and sweet that drives me wild. I order mine non-fat with lite whip, but girl Summer is over and Winter is nearing, enjoy that full fat if you want!

Brie Cheese -- Here's something you didn't know about me -- I hate cheese.  Now, melted, ooey-gooey cheese on pizza or quesadillas is good, but cold cheese makes me want to vomit.  I don't know what it is, I just can't stand it.  Maybe it's the smell? It doesn't matter, I hate cold cheese.  But, I've recently discovered the wonder that is brie.  Maybe it's because I'm preparing for my graduation present trip to Paris, but I decided to be bold at CostCo a couple weeks ago and buy a wheel of brie.  I let it sit out on the counter to get soft, and then spread it on a baguette and oh my God...IT'S SO GOOD! Plus I'm in a wine class for school, and brie with wine just goes amazing together so that has been my treat for when I need to relax; brie, baguette, and Chardonnay!

Ipsy Bag Review: September

Sorry for the lack of posts! I have been super busy with school, work, and a bunch of other adventures and have been completely neglecting my blog! To make up for it I promise I will go on a posting spree! Don't give up on me! ;)

It's time for another Ipsy bag review! This month's bag is a "Street Style" theme with different samples to help you prepare for Fall! If you don't know what Ipsy is, it's a website where for a monthly subscription of $10 you receive 5 deluxe samples of all the latest and hottest products tied into a specific theme for each month. It's a really good deal, especially when you get full-size products that are worth more than the bag itself! I have been a subscriber since September 2013 and must say, this is a great subscription for all you beauty lovers out there! If you're interested in subscribing to your own Ipsy bag, please click here!

September Glam Bag

Bag: I'm digging this bag.  The gunmetal color is so in for Fall, and I'm a real sucker for studs! It's very punk glam and chic. Perfect for traveling!

Nourish Organic Moisturizing Cream Face Cleanser: This product is okay. It doesn't really smell like anything, kind of just like clay.  I've been using it in the morning to wash my face after I wake up, and it hasn't done anything special.  It's definitely not the best face cleanser I've used, but it's also not the worst.

Crown Infinity Shadow/Crease Brush: I was so excited when I realized this was a duet brush! The top of the brush is for applying shadow, and the bottom brush is slimmer and perfect for when you don't want to over-color some areas.  I'm a firm believer that you can never have too many makeup brushes, and I'm happy to add this to my collection!

Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss: I hate this gloss.  It's a sin because the color is so pretty (it's a dark wine red), but the gloss itself applies thin and blotchy. If the product was slightly thicker I think I would love it because it's the perfect color for Fall, Such a shame it's a crappy product!

Pacifica Natural Water-proof Eye Pencil: I'm not a fan of waterproof eye products. It may just be me, but I can never get the damn product off my eyes without irritation! I much prefer products that will wipe off with ease when I'm done for the day.  That being said, I do enjoy the color of this eye pencil.  The silver is a great color to combine with purple eye shadow and I'm looking forward to playing around with it, though it may not be all that often.

Mitchell and Peach Luxury Hand Cream: This smells like the fragrance section of home good stores.  You know what I'm talking about? That one aisle that has so many bars of soap and candles and lotions that it smells like a flower garden threw up in it? Yeah, so each time I use this lotion I get a headache.  It's way too strong for everyday use, but maybe that's why it's "luxury." I don't know, I'm just going to stick to my pumpkin lotions this Fall (can you say Bath and Bodyworks sales?!).

Glam Bag Rating:
6/10 Why am I continuously disappointed with my bags? The only products I'm really going to use here are the brush and the eye pencil. What has happened to Ipsy? I used to get so excited whenever I got that pink packaging in the mail, and now I dread it. I just wish I was receiving products that I could not only use, but like to use!

Now, I have some sad news. I unsubscribed from my monthly Ipsy glam bag. I was just getting so disappointed and felt like what I was receiving was not worth $10. Now, that is not to say that I won't subscribe again in the future!  In fact, expect an upcoming review of a great steal I bought through Ipsy! I'm just going to sit back and take a break (but watch next month they'll give away Chanel or something). I'm considering subscribing to other monthly boxes, so please leave a comment below if you have any favorites!

Until next time my loves x.

Ipsy Bag Review: August

It's time for another Ipsy bag review! This month's bag is a "Beauty Schooled" theme with perfect size samples that you can throw in your backpack on your way to class! If you don't know what Ipsy is, it's a website where for a monthly subscription of $10 you receive 5 deluxe samples of all the latest and hottest products tied into a specific theme for each month. It's a really good deal, especially when you get full-size products that are worth more than the bag itself! August Glam Bag

Bag: I think this bag is adorable! I love the orange polka dots. It screams "back to school" to me and I think it looks just like a pencil case! If I don't use this bag to keep my makeup in, I will definitely use it for pens!

Pores No More Pore Refiner: I'm a huge fan of Dr. Brandt products. I have a microdermabrasion exfoliant from them and I love how it leaves my skin feeling soft.  That being said, I was excited to try this primer. I've used primers before, but the only one I've ever really liked was the Primed and Poreless by Too Faced. Bias aside, I do like this product. It leaves my skin feeling soft and my makeup does seem to stay on for longer. I'm debating on whether or not it's better than Too Faced, but my heart is telling me no.

Absolute Lip Balm: I want to marry this product. I received the green apple flavor and I want to bathe in it. It smells SO good! Imagine walking through an apple orchard -- that's what this product smells like. Plus the color is a gorgeous cherry red so it looks fabulous while hydrating my lips. Now I may be partial to EOS, but I think this lip balm is perfect when I want to add color to my lips as well as keep them from chapping. Rumor is it comes in bubblegum flavor...~swoon~

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara: Okay can I just say that the packaging for this mascara was ridiculous? It came in what looked like a perfume sample package and had all this hype about the product itself. Give me a break.  I think a brand like Urban Decay doesn't need to market themselves in a way so tacky...you're Urban Decay.. we know you're good. Anyway, this mascara seems average to me. My lashes looked a little clumpy after application, but other than that it didn't really stand out in a good or bad way.

Coastal Scents Forever Blush Sample Duo: This was bullshit. Pardon my French, but the sample was so small and stupid that I couldn't even apply it to my cheeks, only use my finger to see the color on the back of my hand. How am I expected to try a sample when my brush won't even fit in the packaging? This product was a joke and honestly I threw it out due to my frustration (oops).

Lord & Berry Silk Kajal Kohl Eye Pencil: I dig this eyeliner.  My old Urban Decay liner that I kept in my travel make-up bag actually just broke in half (heartbreaking) so this is the perfect replacement! It goes on smooth and is the perfect travel size. I've never heard of this brand, but I can already tell they will soon be a favorite.

Glam Bag Rating....

7/10 I'm not as pleased with this bag as I've been in the past, but I did get a few great products that I know I'll be using for as long as they last. I just wish that the blush sample was bigger and had one color instead of two, that way it would have been MUCH easier for me to use my brush to apply it. Overall, the bag is adorable, the lip balm smells like heaven, and the eyeliner is a great replacement from my old one. I'm crossing my fingers that next month's bag is better!

Cocktail of the Week!

My friends and I seem to have been going out a lot lately (much to our wallet's dismay), and trying new restaurants is our mission. Before when we went out to eat, we would always go to the same three restaurants because we were comfortable with them.  I guess we had some sort of revelation, and for the past few weeks we have been going to places we've never tried before. My town doesn't have many local restaurants, but through internet research I found a great local hotspot downtown!

The Ritz Grill is the perfect mix of classy and trendy, and therefore perfect for a girl in her twenties! With menu items anywhere from a NY Strip to an Ultimate Grilled Cheese, this place satisfied all my cravings.  The best part? Happy Hour.  Everyday from 3:30 PM -- 6:30 PM, there is $2 off any martini on the menu. Being a martini connoisseur, I knew I had to take advantage of this opportunity.  I was overwhelmed with how many martinis there were to choose from, but as soon as I saw one I knew it was meant to be! This thing was so damn good I couldn't even taste the alcohol...which can be a problem so beware! My favorite part about this martini? They gave me a "refill" of sorts in a mini shaker! Precious! ANYWAYS, back to the point of this post, my cocktail of the week is...

A Cherry Limeade Martini!

One of my guilty pleasures is a cherry limeade from Sonic (shh, I know), and now I can get my favorite drink in alcohol form! (This just isn't sounding better is it?) Sweet with a little tang, and garnished with a cherry and wedge of lime, this was the perfect girly cocktail to enjoy with my friends! To make this drink at home, all you need is cherry vodka (the Ritz used Svedka), sweet and sour, fresh lime, and grenadine! Simple yet unbelievably delicious. I will definitely be coming back here for more!

Are you a lover of martinis like me? Is this the kind of cocktail you'd love to make with friends? Do you need to stop spending money on alcohol as well? Leave a comment below and we can go to AA together! (Too far?)

Until next time my loves x.

Ipsy Bag Review: July

There is nothing more exciting than receiving my monthly subscription of my Ipsy glam bag! If you don't know what Ipsy is, it's a website where for a monthly subscription of $10 you receive 5 deluxe samples of all the latest and hottest products tied into a specific theme for each month. July Ipsy Glam Bag

Bag: Gotta say, this is one of the cutest bags I've received thus far! I'm such a girly girl, and the hot pink and frill on this bag makes me want to shove it in my purse and never let it go. And it's the perfect size to keep in my purse, or my gym bag, or my desk at work!  That's one thing I love about Ipsy bags: they are a great travel size.  I can fit a mirror, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, and my nail file all with room to spare!

Pixi Beauty Mini Tinted Brilliance Balm: Apparently this is a tinted lip balm, but my color is such a light pink that I can't really tell any change in color on my lips. I like this because it's very minty, and each time I use it I feel like I have fresher breath.  The sample itself is rather small, but I feel like this may be an advantage because then I can just throw it in my purse and use it when needed throughout the day to moisturize my lips. I don't really have any complaints about this product, but I also don't have any praise for it either.

Models Own Nail Polish in Red Sea: I hate this nail polish. Despise it. It looks like a kindergartner throw up his crayons on my nails. I do not know a girl my age, or any age above 10 for that matter, who would willingly buy this nail polish color. The red itself is sort of translucent, and throughout the color is large chunks of tacky multi-colored glitter. This causes the application of the product to not be as smooth as it could be. It's a full-size product but I mean, come on, this is not an ice skating competition.

bareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow: Could this sample be any smaller? I will barely be able to get five uses out of this tube. It kind of reminds me of the Urban Decay primer potions because it is too light to be an actual color for me, but it is a great base. I don't really use cream eyeshadows by themselves because I feel like they crease too easily. As a base, however, this has worked fairly well for me the one time I've used it.  I guess that this also has SPF 15 but that weirds me out because who wears sunscreen eyeshadow?!

Pur~lisse Pur~Protect Essential Daily Moisturizer: I really like this product.  At first I was afraid because my skin is very sensitive to creams, but this has not done any harm to my skin. It is very light and clean when applied and doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy. I also love that it smells like sunscreen because it reminds me of poolside escapades.  The sun protection is SPF 30, which I think is really good for a moisturizer. This sample was a definite win!

Clear Clinic Laboratories Vanished Clear Spot Treatment: Ever since I started taking the vitamin biotin, I've noticed more acne on my face than usual. Everyday I use a charcoal cleanser and a toner, but this spot treatment is the perfect last step to put on my pimples before bed! Warning: it burns after application. If you have very sensitive skin, I would not recommend you try this treatment.  That being said, if you're tough as nails like me (hah!) I would definitely look into this product.  I've noticed a significance difference in size of my pimples after daily use of this spot treatment. The label reads you can use this up to three times daily, but even just applying once before bed has done wonders for my skin. It's a shame the sample is so small!

Glam Bag Rating....

6/10 This has definitely not been the best Ipsy glam bag I've received, but I know that I will get significant usage out of the samples (except that nail polish). I think the bag itself is adorable, but the product sizes could have been bigger and the theme of the bag could have been tied together more. It was called "Sensationally Sunkissed," so maybe a bronzer or fun eye shadow palette would have been better! And for heaven's sake, a nail polish that is actually CUTE!

Trendsetter of the Week

In honor of this fabulous beauty’s 22nd birthday, my trendsetter of the week could only be the lovely Eleanor Calder! Girlfriend to One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, Eleanor has made a huge splash into the world of fashion and entertainment.  A recent college grad, Miss Calder is not only a fashion role model for young girls, but a role model in general. Lover of Starbucks, a good pair of jeans, and trendy sunglasses, Eleanor makes a statement in everything she wears.

Next I'm going to show you how to re-create three Eleanor Calder looks for your own wardrobe! Note that some of these pieces may be a bit pricey, but there is always cheaper alternatives! For example, Eleanor can almost always be seen with aviator sunnies, and instead of going for Prada or Michael Kors, stores like Target or Charlotte Russe have great aviators for a fraction of the price.  Another Eleanor statement piece is her Mulberry bag, but a nice leather satchel from Forever 21 can be just as chic! Fashion is about feeling good in what you wear, so don't feel bad for saving a little cash!

Look 1

Starbucks in hand, here Eleanor puts a modern-classy twist on a military look.  The look is very masculine with an army green button-down, jeans, aviators, and sneakers, but Eleanor adds the feminine touch of a bow clutch to make this look her own. This look is easy enough to recreate and as an owner of the Commes des Garcons Converse, I can concur that they are a fashion MUST! Comfy, cute, and totally interchangeable with all your casual wear.

Look 2

Even on a shopping trip, Eleanor still looks chic. All black everything is the ultimate cool look, and she pulls this off with the utmost class and sophistication. The comfy sneakers balance out the otherwise girly look, making it perfect for a day running from store to store.

Look 3

Eleanor is amazing at making casual look cute and effortless! Pairing a white blouse and nude loafers with bright jeans is the perfect pop of color for summer. Note her signature aviator sunglasses -- a must for this trendsetter! She looks so put together even when she's not trying to hard, and that is how her true beauty shows.

Do you love Eleanor Calder's style as much as I do? Who is your trendsetter of the week? Leave a comment below!

Cocktail of the Week!

I'm so happy it's summer! There is nothing I love more than tanning, swimming, concerts, and all the other wonderful things that come with this beautiful weather. And while I'm out enjoying myself, there is nothing better than a nice cocktail to tie everything together!

I've recently been in a Mexican kick, which means I've been divulging myself in guacamole, tacos, and every recipe in-between. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants is On The Border. They have these brisket tacos that are literally heaven on Earth (go and get them no joke), however because it is now summer, they have a whole new seasonal menu.  This includes new salads, entrees, and, my favorite, drinks.  As soon as I saw this drink I knew I needed to try it, and right away I was in pure bliss! It is sweet and tart and literally the definition of summer in my opinion. And so, my cocktail of the week is...

A Watermelon Margarita!

What says summer more than watermelon? I'm personally not that big of a fan of the fruit itself (one slice and I'm good for the entire summer), but, for whatever reason, watermelon flavored things are one of my favorites! This drink pairs perfectly with Mexican cuisine and is so refreshing. All you need to make this cocktail is watermelon puree, your favorite tequila, orange liquor, agave nectar, and fresh lime juice! And instead of lining the rim of the glass with salt, use sugar! Then top with a slice of watermelon and voila, you have the perfect cocktail for the start of the summer!

Mmm, all this talk about margaritas makes me want to grab one and lay out to tan.  What are your favorite summer cocktails? Have you tried this creation from On the Border? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time my loves x.

What's in my Gym Bag?

It's Summer and we all know what that means -- hitting the gym to keep that bikini body! But if you're like me, you only have time to go to the gym either before or after work, which are both the most difficult times for you to keep your eyes open.  Before buying a gym bag, I would leave work, go to my apartment, change, and then go to the gym...but soon I realized once I was home, my motivation to workout decreased A LOT.  The only time I'm really pumped to hit the gym is right when I'm off work, so that's why I started bringing my gym bag with me everyday! That way I have no excuse but to go straight to the rec center when I'm going home...especially because I have to walk past it anyway!  Since I started using one, my gym bag is my best friend.  I get it ready the night before so that in the morning I can just grab it and go.  I don't have to worry about time or what to wear or anything -- I just take it with me along with my purse. The only thing I really rotate out of my bag are my clothes; everything else is there when I need it! Once I show you what I keep in my gym bag, I'm sure you'll want to start carrying one, too!

Bag - The bag I use is the Vera Bradley Sport Duffel in "Canterbury Magenta." It is the perfect size to fit everything you need, and even has an outside pocket (that I keep headphones in) and net pockets inside. The color is so vibrant that I don't feel gross carrying it around -- it still has that feminine touch even with my sweaty clothes inside!

Water Bottle - How can you go to the gym without hydration? My favorite brand of water bottles are definitely Camelbak. They come in all sorts of colors, and you can even get custom made ones on their website.  I love the straw at the top because it's so much easier to drink when on the treadmill.  There are also labels of mL and oz on the bottle itself so you can keep track of your daily water intake! And of course, all bottle are BPA free. :)

Lotion/Perfume - Is it just me or do your hands get dry whenever you workout? Maybe it's the constant touching of weights, machines, and locker doors, or most likely it's the amount of hand-sanitizer I use! I don't smell my best after the gym, so besides hydrating my skin I also need to smell good. Bath and Bodyworks has great small hand lotions in amazing scents (would you expect any less from B&BW?) that are the perfect fit for any gym bag. Sometimes for extra smelly-goodness, I carry a sample-size of perfume in my bag, too. Currently, I have a sample of CLEAN's "Warm Cotton." It smells like fresh-out-of-the-dryer laundry and isn't overpowering at all.  The perfect scent for after a workout!

Dry Shampoo - Working out means sweat, and sweat means icky hair! After a workout, I love to spritz some dry shampoo in my hair to make it look at least a little better.  Rockaholic's "Dirty Little Secret" is one of my favorites, but Tresseme also has a great price-friendly alternative.  Both leave my scalp feeling clean and they smell good, too!

Face Wash - There is nothing worse, in my opinion, than a greasy and oily face, especially when sweat is mixed in!  Whenever my face feels this way I have to wash it right away, and the Olay Fresh Effects "Out of This Swirled" is my new favorite face wash.  The face wash itself is a swirl of a regular wash and an exfoliater, so it is gentle enough on my skin but still leaves it smooth. Plus it smells like white tea and jasmine, so it's almost as if I'm at a spa.

Moisturizer - After I wash my face I always need to moisturize!  I've tried many high-end brands, but I seem to always come back to the Target brand Up & Up. It's a great price and doesn't leave my skin feeling oily, and it doesn't irritate it either.  There's SPF so my skin doesn't get burned, and the spout rotates so it won't spill in your bag!

Deodorant - No one likes smelly armpits! The other day at Target (can you already tell this is my favorite store?) I was in the dollar section and found the CUTEST mini Dove deodorants.  Instead of spending over $7 for a brand new one, I got the perfect gym-approved mini size for a buck!

Hair Ties - Recently, I have discovered the new rubberband-less hair ties and I am in LOVE! I first picked them up at Forever 21 for under $3, and right away I knew I would never by an ugly black hair tie again! Not only do they not leave kinks in my hair, but they are cute enough to wear around your wrist.  No one wants their hair in their face when they are trying to run, and because I lose these things like crazy, I always carry at least two in my bag.

Sports Bra - If you have big boobs like me, then you need a sports bra for support! I love these colorful ones from Target because they immediately brighten up my mood. And come on, who doesn't want a neon blue bra?!

Tank Top - During the Summer, I feel like the gym is 30x hotter than it usually is.  I used to be fine wearing an old t-shirt to work out in, but lately I have been dying of heat stroke even in those.  So, tank tops are my new best friend.  You can get them anywhere, but I love Old Navy ones the best.  They even have certain athletic tanks with sports bras already built in...what a steal!

Shorts - Like I said, the gym is hot, so shorts are a must with me.  And again, I'm addicted to Old Navy activewear.  It's a great price and a great quality.  They come in all sorts of colors so you can match them with all your other workout gear.  Plus they are super lightweight and won't stick to your thighs!

Socks - I feel like this is an obvious necessity. Just like with sports bras, I love bright colored ones because you can't be sad or mopey with hot pink socks on! I usually get mine at Ross or DSW because they are almost always on sale. No sense in buying over-priced socks when they are just going to get smelly!

Shoes - I admit it, I'm in love with Nike.  I bought my first pair two years ago on sale at DSW and from that point on I have refused to buy any other brand. I have a pretty wide foot, but even so Nike shoes fit me perfectly.  They come in so many colors and styles that it's impossible not to be satisfied.  Plus, I always get mine on sale for at least 30% off at DSW...which just adds to why I love them!

Fitbit - Unless you've been living under a rock, you've had to have heard of a Fitbit.  It's a small black (or colored) band that you wear around your wrist that tracks of how many steps you take, how many miles, how many active minutes you have, how many hours of sleep you get (and how often you are restless),and how many calories you have burned each day. It's honestly the greatest purchase I've ever made. My mom and I both got one on New Years, and we've been keeping up with them ever since!  It's a great way to not only keep you on track, but keep you motivated, too.  You can even download a free app on your phone to check on your stats for the day.  And with the app you can also track your calorie intake, water intake, and your weight-loss progress! These bands are seriously a great asset to anyone trying to stay fit, and although the price is a little expensive, I promise you they are worth it!

Well, that sums up the contents of my gym bag!  What do you all keep in your gym?  Anything I missed out on that you find essential?  Leave a comment below!

Until next time my loves .x
